Is MotelMax network compatible?
Yes, you can run the standard version of MotelMax in single user or multi-user mode.
•For networks, install the MotelMax program and data files in a "shared" folder on one PC. The "shared" folder is visible to all PC's in the network.
•Each PC should launch MotelMax from that shared folder not from the local drive.
•MotelMax manages file and record locking so multiple users can access the same data files at the same time.
For client/server setups, refer to MotelMax Pro.
In this example, we have a network comprised of three computers: PC1, PC2 and PC3.
•The MotelMax program is installed on PC1 in the default installation folder: C:\Maxwin
•Make this folder (C:\Maxwin) on PC1 a "shared" folder. This allows other computers on your network (PC2 and PC3) access to the "shared" folder on PC1.
•You do not have to install MotelMax on PC2 or PC3.
•Setup a "Shortcut" on PC2 and PC3 that runs MotelMax from the "shared" folder on PC1.
How to "Share" a Folder
Here’s how to share a folder on your Windows machine:
1. Right-click on the folder you want to share.
2. Select "Give Access to > Specific people" or "Share with". (This will depend on the version of Windows you are using.)
3. From there, you can choose specific users and their permission level (whether they can read-only or read/write). After making your selection, click Share.
4. If a user doesn’t appear on the list, type their name into the taskbar and hit Add. You can also share with Everyone.
5. Click Share.
Consult your hardware tech support or network administrator for specific information on how to setup a network and share folders.
There are issues of user access, permissions and security that are unique to your network.
